12 things I watched, read, listened to, ate, learned about or grew a hyper-fixation with the past two weeks aka my consumption report.
If you’re in on the discord crew then you know that I reached out last week to figure out what I should write about as I get back into writing more I’m still in the throes of working on my NETWORKING 101 post along with my deep dive on women’s role in the film industry and “second chances”. I apologize, I’m a deeply slow writer when it involves research and organizing my chaotic brain but I hope they will be worth it + helpful/insightful (dream big) when they do arrive in your inboxes!
But along with those a more frequent cadence of actionable advice posts and think pieces — I’m gonna ****try*** to drop some of the things I’ve “tasted” in the last two-ish weeks. Some good, some delicious, some horrible, some strange, just a run of the gamut. Or should I just call this “my consumption report”?? Also apologies for such a late in the day email!!
Patrick Radden Keefe’s new book - London Falling. I thought it was such a fantastic read. The way each chapter started with almost a randomized story or character and it all flowed back seamlessly into the main storyline was just awe-inspiring. The other topics that I felt like it found it’ depths in where how much you can truly know someone, especially your child and that so much of “wealth and prestige” just like we see on instagram is a facade. At one point in the book the mom says something along the lines of “It was just three crooked salesmen, selling each other air.” and that just really resonated with me as we sift through a world trying to force AI and meta-stalker glasses down our throats. And to the younger end… as a fellow troubled child who often looks back and thinks about how lucky I am to be alive after so many stupid choices.

Letterboxd is for sale!!! And I personally would like neither Sony or Netflix and especially not Paramount to own it. Elizabeth Joyce with Instrisinc Entertainment is looking to be the buyer that could let FILM LOVERS own Letterboxd. I watched August: Osage County (on Tubi) for the first time or… honestly maybe I’ve seen it before but I watched it with a specific intention this time around and my god. I could watch Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep go toe-for-toe for ten more hours. Not to mention the goat Julianne Nicholson who never gets enough praise and just all around highlight performances from Juliette Lewis and Margo Martindale.
This New Yorker piece — ‘Locked Away’ by Jonathan Blitzer. I don’t think this week could pass without taking a moment to comprehend just how sick our country’s leadership is and it’s not lost on me how overly inundated we are with videos, think pieces (ironic) and media about how illegal everything that ICE currently does is. The piece digs into the lives of the everyday people who’s world have been upended by these pointless attacks of violence. “The idea seemed to be: How can we do this as cheaply and brutally as possible?”
