I have officially hit 1K followers on substack and I can’t even begin to express how much I appreciate everyone’s support! So i made* a lil’ extra post today to write about one of my most asked questions! A real example of a pitch…. that ISN’T STRANGER THINGS - which is a PHENOM “pitch deck” but not really the easiest to attain.

It’s hard to show real use case examples (from professional writers, directors, producers) because that is their work (their story, characters, themes, personal notes, etc) but I did have a script on the blacklist 2022 (my first ever deadline mention!!) and I did make, what I think is, a pretty FUN pitch deck for that!

So I’m sharing a few pages with some explanations on why I did what I did *With the whole deck link at the bottom for paid subscribers!*

One of my favorite things about this deck is that since the concept is pretty whacky, I was able to have the deck very themed and silly. The writing is a LOT more casual, conversational, free-flowing and silly then a normal deck I’d make.

As always I get 90% of my imagery from my BAE - Shotdeck - which you can get 25% off with my code!

Cover Page:

The reason I used a THELMA & LOUISE photo is because one, duh ICONIC film but also that I felt like BLNT could be a modern day take on the story. Which leads to the…. logline/overview page.

Overview:

There were a bunch of pages in-between this but this is the page that includes the logline to give the audience an understanding of the story and I wanted to give it just a BIG TAKEAWAY that these are the *themes*.

Comps:

IMO, one of the most important pages! It allows the reader to envision the success of your film, the genre, the tone and the possibility.

Character pages:

This is your chance to again give some comps to your characters and explain their vibes, fears, and motivations.

Theme:

What is the real takeaway from the story? I think, at least for me, I always want to have a lot of heart in my stories or a deeper message and this was mine!

There’s obviously a lot more pages in between all of these, pages for each main character, collages, the world, audio vibes, audience, etc!

You can check out the full pitch deck below. Since in my post earlier this week, pitch doc step by step… I explained the different types of pitch decks! This is an email version that would go along with my script when I send it out or my managers. To give a vibe then leave people hopefully wanting more and/or excited to read or talk.
